Stormbringer was founded in 1982 by members who later would form the heavy metal band Phoenix. After the release of Phoenix's first 4-track '86 demo they had a short name-change and played under the name New Brand for a while and recorded a 8-track demo the same year: New Brand - Demo (1986). They later changed back to Phoenix again and in 1989 the band released the 'Say Goodbye' EP on Active Records.
